Notes: After cruising around town showing Matt Lauer the Asbury Park sites for a Today Show taping, Bruce played two songs at Sonny's for the cameras and a small crowd. Brief snippets were shown on the Today Show's July 29 broadcast.
Notes: After the Friday afternoon rehearsal concert, Springsteen played an even more intimate set for a private post-show party at Sonny's. All but "Growin' Up" were played by request in this acoustic set, with Bruce's "big book of songs" at the ready. Patti Scialfa joined in on harmonies on "Tougher Than the Rest" and "Thunder Road."
Notes: Springsteen and the E Street Band performed live on the Today Show, on a special edition of the show broadcast entirely from Asbury Park. After greeting the crowd around 7:20 -- "Good morning.... it's early...." -- Springsteen warmed up the Convention Hall crowd with a few acoustic numbers, then he was joined by Nils, Patti, Garry and Clarence. For the main set, broadcast in full an hour later, the entire E Street Band was onstage for three Rising tunes plus "Glory Days." Thousands of additional fans listened and watched the performance from the beach and boardwalk, on large screens set up outside Convention Hall.
