Notes:
ONE show, with STEEL MILL headlining. Drummer Vini Lopez, who had been absent from the band during part of September, was definitely back in lineup by this point. Although a band performance in Richmond on this date is known, there is still some confusion as to the actual venue.

Notes:
ONE show, an all day, afternoon-evening event headlined by ROY ORBSION, with STELL MILL performing on the undercard along with several other artists. This was an outdoor event, with the artists performing inside the Centennial Park Band Shell. Springsteen recalled this show in his speech inducting Orbison into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in January 1987. The exact date for this show has long been a mystery, although very recent comments by Steel Mill vocalist Robbin Thompson indicate this Orbison show took place the day before Steel Mill opened for Ike & Tina Turner.

01 I can't take it no more
02 Why do you do that
03 Sherlock goes Holmes
04 Goin' back to Georgia

Notes:
ONE show, double bill, with Steel Mill opening for headliner THE IKE AND TINA TURNER REVUE. This was a strange billing combination – a soul band and a progressive rock group. So it is perhaps not surprising that less than half the tickets to the 3,000-seat Mosque were sold. Former Back Door Club owner John Richardson, who orchestrated the event, has stated that he lost a fair bit of money on this show. The above-mentioned setlist is taken from a circulating 29-minute audience recording of only fair quality. This audio has not been issued on any mainstream commercial boot but it is circulating via private CDR sources, usually with the source-date unidentified. Given that they were the warm-up act, this audio probably represents 60% - 70% of Steel Mill’s performance. It is likely that two or three additional songs were played but are missing from the circulating audio. The audio evidence certainly supports reports that the venue was half empty. The crowd reaction to Steel Mill is polite but indifferent. “Why’d You Do That” includes a customized refrain mentioning Woodland Falls, VA that seems to have been used only when playing in Richmond. “Goin’ Back To Georgia” features Bruce and Robbin Thompson alternating the lead vocal.

01 Dancing in the street
02 Goin' back to Georgia
03 Change it (Revolution)
04 Garden state parkway blues
05 I can't take it no more
06 Train ride
07 Resurrection
08 Black widow spider [? "Slow blues" in the review]
09 (fucked up) amplifier Blues [? "Slow blues" in the review]

Notes:
This is believed to be the debut gig for new Steel Mill member Robbin Thompson. Setlist from a John Pikula review. Train ride is imported from the mercy of flight. ONE show, double bill, with STEEL MILL headlining and SUNNY JIM opening. The above-mentioned 7-song setlist is culled from a review of the show by Joan Pikula in the Asbury Park Evening Press on 19/10/70. (see the article here). The band opened with “Dancing” – the remaining songs are in an estimated performing sequence, although they are likely to represent the complete (or near-complete) performance. A sellout performance in the College’s Gym, with a crowd that Pikula estimates near 4,000.

Notes:
One show. Steel Mill headline. New Jersey folk singer Jeannie Clark is the support act. Thanks to Daniel for his memory : "I was at this show. The University of Richmond was a bastion of right wing social attitudes in those days (much the same as it is today). I was amazed that Springsteen was playing there at all, as he was linked to left wing anti-war sentiments. A few songs into his set, someone tossed a smoke grenade into the hall, filling the room with thick smoke. The band attempted to continue playing, but the University officials decided to cut the show short and clear the hall. "

Notes:
One show, quadruple billing, with "local" bands STEEL MILL, BIG BROTHER and FEAST supporting headliner S.R.C., a Detroit-based group in the MC5-AMBOY DUKES mold, who had three poor selling albums out on Capitol and a classic garage single "Black Sheep, Black Sheep". SRC is better known via its earlier mid-60's incarnation called THE FUGITIVES. According to locals from the era this show was promoted as a "battle of the bands" event.

Notes:
ONE show, an afternoon-evening event headlined by QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE, with STEEL MILL performing on the undercard along with several other artists. This was an outdoor event, with the artists performing inside the Centennial Park Band Shell. This was a return engagement for Steel Mill in Nashville, at the very same venue where the band had opened for Roy Orbison a few weeks earlier. Note: there is some confusion as the exact date – this show may have taken place on 24/10/70 or 07/11/70.
